The significance of a personalised Christmas Card – Adelaide Family Photographer

November 14, 2012

–

–

Now, in this age of facebook and email, I see that the traditional Christmas card is long being forgotten. We simply don’t have time to personalise each card with a long message. I do fear that a very special part of sharing a Christmas card is being lost. It provides a very real reason to get in touch with someone we perhaps wouldn’t do, in a way that does not require them to be in front of a computer screen!

This year, just as I have every year since my daughter was born I have created my own family Christmas cards using photos of my kids or our family to give to family and friends. Not only is it fun to do, it locks me down to taking a recent photo of my children which, just like an electrician with extension cables everywhere, can be a photographers downfall. It allows me to give everyone a little insight into our lives in the year that has past.

–

I have found the delivery of these cards, this year, particularly interesting. When someone opens a card like this, they simply can not resist but study the whole thing, laugh at the moments with us and really treasure what we have shared this with them.

For example, we dropped in to my daughter’s kindy. She has not attended since April, but they were a significant part of her life and this provided the best excuse to touch base with them again. They truly loved that they were still in our hearts. We have also given cards to people that are still fondly reflecting on last years as they still have it up on display! We have also delivered one to a new neighbour who we have only introduced ourselves to once. A great chance to let them know our names, give them a chance to touch base with us, give them a feeling of being welcomed into their new home and neighbourhood. A feeling of community that is so often lost.

Christmas cards don’t have to be a waste of time. Make them special, make them yourself or make them personalised. The most important thing is make an effort. An effort to keep in touch and share the love.

A little idea might be if to print out a little list of what has happened this year in your family. This can be easily slipped into a card. Add a recent pic of the kids and people will treasure the gift long after the Christmas cards are all pulled down.

Merry Christmas to you all

This is where you will find me! – Adelaide Portrait Photographer

September 6, 2012

It is now around 11 years since I finished my studies in photography and coming up to 6 years since I established Cocoon Studio and for many years I worked out of a studio in Norwood. After the birth of my second child I moved my business and now operate out of a beautiful studio space in the city. To make it a little easier to find me – my name is now on the door and what wonderful timing that we are celebrating a year since I moved in.

–

I don’t know what it is about this place, it is not really something you can put your finger on. It is simply a feeling. I love being here, I love the way I feel, I love that my clients feel so comfortable here. This place inspires me, motivates me, and gives me the warm fuzzies.

–

This is where you will find me for studio based sessions, client meetings, image selection, classes, courses a good old gas bag. Drop by and say ‘hi’ – 114 Gilles Street.
